Despite the fact that gyms are at every nook and corner these days keeping in mind the importance of health and wellness in today’s hectic world, a recent pan-India research conducted by Gympik, India’s largest fitness discovery platform, based on the responses given by 1.06 million people, belonging to the age group of 20-35 years, shows that most of the Indians don’t follow a fitness regimen due to lack of time and commitment. According to the study, 53% of the respondents said that they lack enough motivation and discipline to maintain a fitness regimen on a regular basis to stay fit.

Among the few major reasons that have been cited behind joining gym lists combating stress (33%), reducing health-related risks (53%), building muscle (18%), losing weight (42%), improving energy levels (46%), and increasing functional strength (37%) top the list among professionals.

The study also found that women are more focused on losing weight and the primary focus of men behind joining a gym remains building muscle mass. And when it comes to the types of workouts that is popular among the millennial for bringing effective results in lesser time period includes workouts such as body weight training (58%) for men, while women are more interested in fun exercises such as aerobics (85%) and Zumba (81%).

According to the study, only 11% people have been regular to the gym for a time span of six months whereas 30% of the respondents have a gym membership. The potential crowd among whom mostly are busy professionals, finding solace in the convenience of virtual gyms or workout at home videos.  For some, personal trainer service at home comes as a better alternative, about 44% of the respondents chose to opt for personal training at home than going to high end gyms.

Apart from these, significant number of people prefer activities like walking (30%), running (24%), cycling (11%), swimming and sports (18% each) than working out at a gym.

According to the study, 48% of the respondents follow a healthy diet. It reveals further, that when it comes to mindful and controlled eating habit, women (54%) rule the roost as compared to men (29%).
