Green Tea, the miraculous health drink which everyone talks about has its share of positive and negative effects. As they say “You don’t have to be productive all the time”, Green tea is also not productive for everyone. But is it productive for you or not? Say No to Caffeine:

Green Tea does have caffeine in it and If you have a low tolerance to caffeine make sure you don’t have more than 2 cups a day or else its intake will aggravate your problems.Caffeine also exerts effect on anxiety, sleep and headaches, can cause irregular heartbeats, diarrhoea, high blood pressure and heartburn.

 If Pregnant, take caution:

Green Tea contains Tannins which can increase your stomach acidity, decrease the absorption of iron and folic acid and also lead to constipation, stomach aches and nausea. So, if you are anaemic or pregnant or even trying to conceive you should say no to green tea.

Leads to Osteoporosis :

Green Tea intake may increase the amount of calcium flushed out in urine which can in turn lead to deterioration of bone health and cause Osteoporosis. The elderly and females are more prone to Osteoporosis and thus, due care should be taken to avoid the disease.

Not compatible with some medications:

Green tea should not be consumed by people taking anticoagulant drugs such as coumadin/warfarin or anyone on stimulant drugs like Cocaine and Ephedrine.It also interferes with the chemotherapy drug bortezomib(Velcade) and other boronic acid based proteasome inhibitors and thus should be a big no by anyone on these medications.

 

As nothing in the world is perfect and has some flaws, so does green tea. Be smart, drink intelligently, minimize the intake and don’t depend on any drink to make you healthy.Instead eat right and exercise to maintain and improve your health.
